DRUM NEWSLETTERJune 2011 Edition
With unemployment still at around 9%, it is easy to become discouraged and wonder, “How are we going to create jobs?” A very interesting recent opinion piece co-written by Jeff Immelt (CEO of GE and head of Obama’s jobs and competitiveness council) and Ken Chenault (CEO of American Express) outlined a few suggested ways that the U.S. can create jobs:
Speeding up construction projects by cutting red tape
Boosting training for manufacturing skills through partnerships between the private sector and community colleges
Increasing tourism by improving visa processes to win market share for U.S. tourism
Making commercial buildings throughout the U.S. more energy efficient
According to Jeffrey Hollender in his article “How to Create Jobs for the Next Generation” the key lies in entrepreneurship opportunities (see article below). Hopefully by implementing some of these suggestions and being persistent, jobs will start being created again and unemployment will fall to more manageable levels soon.
